The Katniss Cowl

This was my very first knitting project ever. Like, ever. I mean I didn't knit a hat, a scarf, anything. When I saw this in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, I needed to have it. When I got home, I immediately went online to see where I could get one. At the time, I could only find a few that people had made on Etsy, and some patterns, and I didn't really like any of them very much (the movie had just come out - in the years since then, lots more makers have come up with far better versions than mine!) But, I like a challenge! So I set out to make my own. First step: Figure out what knitting is...

I got some yarn, I got some circular knitting needles, I watched some YouTube tutorials. I decided to use a herringbone stitch because why would I start with the basics?

I made it up as I went and I kept track of nothing, so, unfortunately I can't really provide a pattern or clear instructions for this, although I did later go on to create a more replicable design for this. I'll do another post about that later.

Though it was far from perfect, I was really proud of how this came out for my first project, and it became the template for my next several projects!
